Dialog> is the alias of London based producer Andy Smith.
His productions fuse a cinematic, movie soundtrack style with deep-tech and down-tempo electronic beats.
Dialog>'s tracks were first played by
Dave Mothersole who featured the tracks on his deep-house show on Kiss FM. His encouragement led to the release of the debut album Music for Imaginary Movies.
The album was named after early feedback from DJ's commenting on the atmospheric style of the music.
The album went into wider circulation and attracted good reviews and plays from other DJ's including Nick Luscombe, Alucidnation, Pathaan, The Plump DJ's, Drumattic Twins, Anthony Pappa, Nico de Ceglia & Jim "shaft" Ryan. Abandoned was featured on the Big Chill's "Readers WAVS" CD.
Dialog> gigs on the London and festival circuit notching up gigs with Echaskech, Jon Hopkins, Daedalus, & Gagarin. He works closely with the Lo-tek label and has gigged with many of their artists: Bombay Monkey, Sound Sanctuary and Minke.
History
Dialog> started life as a collaboration with Alan Platten (taoyoyo). They met at cubs and both failed to earn many badges, which laid the foundations of a long term friendship that eventually led to a musical collaboration.
They were veterans of the 90's electronic scene and saw many of the key acts: Orbital, Underworld, Sabres of Paradise, Spooky, Ultramarine, Aphex Twin, Fluke, Seefeel, Lamb & Global Communication.
They co-wrote 6 of the 8 tracks from Music for Imaginary Movies together.
Alan now works as a designer in the USA, but still contributes artwork from afar.
Andy still records under the Dialog> alias.
